I was born at Old Ashford Hospital in 1963 and have lived in Appledore all my life.  I am married to Jo and we have three very sports minded, rugby playing teenage Sons, Ben, Tom and Adam.

I have participated in village life as an active member of the Parish Hall Committee as well as other Societies.

I have farmed in Appledore for as long as I can remember!  First with Dairy Cows and then in 2000 moving on to Salad crops, selling to London Restaurants and the wholesale markets of New Covent Garden and Spitalfields as well as other specialist outlets.

Many of you will know that I served as a Member of the Appledore Parish Council for the past 6 years, therefore I bring to my new role of Chairman, a degree of continuity coupled with an intimate local knowledge along with the enthusiasm and drive to make a positive difference to our village during my tenure of office.

Communications

I have lived in Appledore for 18 years, moving here from London with my husband Robert and two daughters, Lizzie and Charlie.  Before starting a family, I worked in London in Sales & Marketing, Sponsorship and Public Relations.  Hence my passion and belief that good communication is vital in all walks of life.   I immediately took an active interest in our community, joining the Village Hall committee, the committees for the Jubilee and Millennium celebrations.  I have given practical support to numerous village events and served on the Parochial Church Council.

Beyond Appledore, I have served as Vice-Chair of Governors at Tenterden Junior School and Chair of the PTA of both the Infant and Junior Schools.

I think we live in a great village with many things to celebrate.    There are and have been dedicated people that have worked to make Appledore what it is but I strongly believe by working together we could make it an even better village both for young and older residents.

Thank you to all of you who supported and encouraged me to stand as one of   your councillors.  I intend to work hard on your behalf to fulfill this role to the best of my ability, listening to you as parishioners and  addressing any issues that you might be concerned about.

Having been born in Orpington, I have lived in the county of Kent all my life.  We moved to Appledore in 2010 having previously lived in Sevenoaks and worked in London. I have been married to Huw for 33 years. We have 3 children, all of whom have left home, and as many of you will know they consequently cost more to maintain now than when they lived with us. I am a keen badminton player, swimmer and enjoy walking.  For the past 4 years I have worked at the local farm shop, but have recently started a new job.  Apart from having been on school committees, I have no other experience of local council, so am therefore somewhat of a novice.  I hope however that my previous employment in policing, retail, and secretarial work, have given me a good feel for fairness and common sense, and that this will enable me to be an approachable and active member of the parish council.

I was born in Canterbury and brought up on a farm. As a small child I went to school in Rye. I studied Medicine at Bristol University, graduating in 1972. After further study and having worked in Bristol, Cornwall, North Devon and London, I came to Hamstreet and Appledore in 1981. I joined the general medical practice of Dr. Edward and Dr. Hollingberry. For the first few years of practice, I worked in the very small surgeries in Hamstreet and in Colthups, Appledore. I retired from full time general practice in 2009. However, I do still work part time in Rye.
I have four children, two of them doctors, one a lawyer and the youngest is still at school. I have lived in the area for 36 years and for the past year I have lived in Appledore.
As a general practitioner, I spent my professional life trying to help people with their problems. Now as a parish councillor I hope that I will be able to contribute to the community of Appledore.

Village Plan review

I have lived in Appledore for nearly 14 years. I am married to Denise and have 4 sons and 7 grandchildren. I am a retired business man having worked for an international papermaking company entailing extensive travel to many parts of the world.

Having been the chairman of the Appledore Parish Plan, published in late 2009, I have met many Appledore residents and become familiar with the lovely village of Appledore as a whole.

I have also served on a number of local committees and the Marsh Million (loan and grant scheme) approval board.

I am very excited that Appledore Parish Council now has a full complement of seven councillors. I look forward to working as a team and trust that my life experience will enable me to contribute towards bringing about a period of continuity and stability so that hopefully between us we can make things happen.

I moved to Appledore just over 40 years ago whilst working as a freelance consulting engineer, mostly within the UK, before initially becoming an associate director of Barcol Ltd and establishing its Kent office in 1995. I am married to Marilyn with two grown up children, my son currently residing in Western Australia and my daughter in mid Kent.

I first became a Parish Councillor 13 years ago and served latterly for several years as Vice Chairman until the election of 2015 when I chose not to stand again.  However when the current parish council found itself short of members, I was approached to re-stand and now find myself once again a Parish Councillor.

It is good to be back and with six new enthusiastic Councillors with fresh ideas which is so important for the future benefit of the village.

Personal
I was born in George Town, British Guyana and have resided in Kent since I was 3 years of age.  I am married and have 3 children, (Anna, Nick and Andrew. We moved to Wittersham in 2006.

Following my time at University and my initial career in the Insurance sector, I have had the benefit of being able to watch my children grow up into young people to be proud of. Along the way, I have had the support of my family, as I kept myself busy with voluntary work at the schools attended by my children and with the organisations and groups where my children have participated.

I have been fortunate to travel widely during my student days and later accompanying my husband who worked and lived overseas for extended periods of time, but I have to say there is little that outstrips the beautiful Kent countryside.

Message to Parishoners
Four years ago I began working as Parish Clerk for Iden Parish Council, just as the role of Clerk took on yet another dimension with the 2011 Localism Bill providing small Parishes with the opportunity to have greater influence in the provision of services tailored to the needs of residents. It is an exciting time to provide support and assistance to Councillors as they seek to meet Parishioners requirements and expectations.

I enjoy being involved in community life and look forward to actively participating on behalf of the Appledore Parish Council and the Parishioners of Appledore.
